The Himalayas - where earth meets sky
Indian Himalayas - Kinnaur

Sazo
Observed on the first day of the month of Magh each year, this festival is widely celebrated in most parts of Kinnaur. The people take a ritual bath in a spring or stream, with some even going to the Satluj River for their ritual bath after which they are fed a sumptuous meal.

The family or local god is worshipped with the specially prepared food sans meat. They also worship the domestic hearth and pray that it continues to be lit every day in the following year. Guns are also fired to ward-off evil spirits.

Folk dances are held towards late evening and the festivities continue till late in the night.
