The Himalayas - where earth meets sky
Indian Himalayas - Lahaul

Keylong
The town of Keylong is the headquarters of this district. It is situated above the Bhaga River. Keylong is situated on the Manali-Leh highway. In recent years this town has rapidly grown, partly due to the increase in the number of foreign and domestic visitors reaching here.

Keylong is the ideal base for starting on treks to the surrounding mountains. The slopes above this town are snow- covered for most of the year. There is a large monastery near Keylong on the opposite bank of the river. It can be approached by crossing a small bridge over the Bhaga River.

There are small hotels, inns and rest houses at Keylong. In winter, when the roads around Keylong are blocked by snow, regular helicopter services connect this town with the rest of the world.

Koksar
The mountain hamlet of Koksar is situated on the left bank of the Chandra River. It is the first habitation that the visitor sees after crossing the Rohtang Pass en route from Manali.

The winding motor road descending from the mountain top presents a beautiful sight. From Koksar a road leads to Spiti over the Kunzam La pass. The other flank of the Chandra Valley is very steep. Terraced slopes around Koksar are cultivated. There is a bridge over the Chandra River at Koksar. A rest house is available for spending the night at Koksar.

Tandi
The hamlet of Tandi is situated at the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers, which merge to form the Chandra-Bhaga or Chenab River. The roads from Tandi lead to Keylong, Udaipur and Koksar. There are many villages near Tandi which offer excellent opportunities for learning about the unique cultural setting of the Lahaul Valley.
