In northeast Namibia, on the Botswana border, lies the small but beautiful Mahango Game Reserve, covering an area of about 30,000 hectares. The Okavango River separates it from the Caprivi Game Reserve. Although the reserve is open to visitors throughout the year, the best time to visit is during the dry season. No accommodation is provided within the reserve and the nearest shelter is about 18 km from the park. Two game viewing roads provide the opportunity to view animals like the elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hippo, lechwe, sitatunga, buffalo, sable, and roan and other antelopes at the park. Visitors need to take precautions against malaria and bilharzia and beware of crocodiles.
