Rise to Glory: Kingdoms of the South

INTRODUCTION

Apartheid (pronounced 'apart-hate') was an oppressive system that seperated blacks from whites. It segregated the nation of South Africa, denying any privileges to the black community. In their struggle to be free from the bonds of apartheid, as well as colonialism their attempts were brutally suppressed.

South Africa was not liberated from Apartheid until the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990. He eventually became president of South Africa and was one of the most celebrated African figures. His release marked the end of the sad saga of apartheid and the beginning of a new Africa.  1     2
