Profiles: Countries

INTRODUCTION

Africa has more countries than any other continent. Within these countries are the most diverse peoples, and histories in the world. Country Profiles, covers the history of each of these countries from the colonial era, to the struggle for independence, right up to the new millenium.

The ancient societies in Africa still did exist but with the advent of colonialism this historical order was disrupted forever. At the turn of the century almost every inch of Africa had come under the influence of a colonial power.

The struggle for an independent Africa began relatively early. Although some countries welcomed the colonists others saw it as a threat, or invasion.

By 1960 most of the countries of Africa were independent.Nambia was last, gaining its independence in 1990 from South Africa.
