The Tai National Park contains some of the last virgin rainforests in West Africa. The Tai forests contain spectacular primary forests with trees that shoot up 46 meters high, with huge trunks and supporting roots. Here, the tall trees block out the sunlight, preventing dense undergrowth. This, in turn, makes walking an interesting, enjoyable and easy experience. The best time to visit the park is between December to February - the dry season. A permit from the Ministry in Abidjan is required. Visitors can stay at the village of Tai. Tourists can observe animals like the elephant, leopard, golden cat, pygmy hippo, buffalo, warthog, forest duiker, antelope, Colobus monkey and chimpanzee. However, the thick vegetation does not make wildlife watching easy. Visitors should also carry their own supplies, including a compass and possibly a map as well, because it is quite easy to get lost in the park.

Swiss researcher Hedwige Boesch and her husband Christophe Boesch have been carrying on research in the park with chimpanzees since the late 1970s. The chimpanzees live in large groups of 60-80 individuals. During November to February, visitors can often hear cracking sounds - the sound of the chimps using stones to crack nuts.
