Located in the northern part of Zimbabwe, on the eastern shore of Lake Kariba, the Charara Safari area covers 1,700 square kilometers of woodlands. It is open to visitors throughout the year. Accommodation is available at Nyanyana Camp - a caravan and camping site. There is a network of game viewing roads that are suitable for 4X4 vehicles. These give visitors a chance to observe wildlife up close. Game walks and boats are also available. Wildlife includes the elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, black rhino, sable, and roan and other antelopes. While camping, one needs to be aware that elephants pass through the camp quite often on their way to the water's edge. Moreover, visitors should take measures to protect themselves against crocodiles and other dangerous animals. Malaria is common in the area.
