Developing classroom resources for science

Searching for science classroom resources

In this activity you should be guided by the focus areas that you identified in the previous workshop. You will attempt to find interesting new resources to use to develop your learners' understanding of specific topics in science. You will be expected to search the Internet and find different resources that could support you as you develop your own classroom resources.

By the end of this activity you could achieve the following outcomes:

- Find and evaluate Internet learning resources

Follow these steps to complete these activities. Look for contexts that are meaningful to you in your classroom.

  Description Resources
1 Work in pairs or small groups or teachers with similar interests and focus areas (50 minutes).

You will be expected find a few different resources on the Internet that have ideas about the outcomes on which you have chosen to work. You should be prepared to use these resources for several activities during this course, ending in a planned lesson for your learners. So, remember that you are looking for resources that you can adapt and use in your science classroom.
  • Connect to the Internet and use Bing to search for information on your selected outcomes and/or assessment standards.
  • Make notes of the type of science resources that are available on each site. Try to look for resources that you will be able to use but also look at other interesting possibilities.

» Use the resource review document to record useful resources.

» Some science websites.

2 Regroup as a class (15 minutes).

Share the most useful resources that you found with the class.
 
3 Return to your original groups (55 minutes).
  • Continue your search.
  • Save pages that you may find useful in creating in lesson resources.
  • Save images that you may find useful (make a note of the location so that you can acknowledge these sources).
