Many years ago, coffee was produced in Las Terrazas.  After that, nomadic populations roamed the area.  Eventually, almost all of the trees in the area had been cut down and used.  After the Revolution, a heavy reforestation program began in 1967.  Since then, the area has become covered in forests.  The workers who came were given homes as well.  Apartments and houses along the river are now found in the small town.
