Cooperative

At the farming cooperative, you will meet with the President and other members of a large cooperative.  They are paid by the Government for a certain amount of produce each year, and are allowed to sell what is left.  These cooperatives were only set up in the early years of the decade.  Before, this work had been done by state farms.

The farmers on this cooperative earn up to 950 pesos a month, more than double what even the best paid government employees get.  They also have a bus, which takes the workers on vacation to a beach.  Meals are provided, as is housing.
