The Nilo-Saharan languages are so widely dispersed that they have been difficult to study and classify. These languages are spoken south of the Sahara along the savanna zone and from the Nile to the middle of Niger. Some pastoralist tribes in eastern Africa also speak languages belonging to this family. The Nilo-Saharan subgroup includes Songhai, Koman, Chari-Nile and Saharan.
