In northern Africa and going east towards the Horn of Africa the Afro-Asiatic language families are spoken. These subgroups include: Semitic (Amharic, Arabic, and Tingrinya), Berber, Chadic (Hausa), and Cushitic. In Sudan and the countries north of the Sahara, Arabic is widely spoken. Ethiopia's official language is Amharic. In sub-Saharan West Africa, Hausa and Fulani are widely spoken.
