Engage designed by Thabo
Rubric states:
" Instructional and pedagogical strategies adopted are well-thought out and engage learners in their learning."

The focus here is on how learners are kept engaged. Look back to Session 2 to remind yourself of what keeps learners engaged. How does the teacher retain the learners' interest.

Example:

Photo CD
Teacher Support

Hints

  • Engaging learners is really about keeping their interest voluntarily over extended periods of time. This is best achieved if they perceive the activity to be challenging and authentic (relating meaningfully to their lives)
  • Using ICT to engage learning is one strategy but insufficient in itself - the danger is that ICT becomes the focus of attention at the expense of the learning
  • Learners are engaged when they feel that they are making a useful contribution either for themselves (Photo CD) or for others (Teacher Support)
  • Learners are better engaged when working together
  • Learners are better engaged when working in stimulating environments, often outside the classroom
  • Learners are better engaged when directing their own learning
