ICT Skills for Teachers

Create a simple presentation (Beginner level)

As an educator, you may like to make your lessons more exciting. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, you can make visually exciting and colourful slide shows with text and pictures. Presentations can be easily edited and enhanced for future needs.

By the end of this task you could achieve the following outcomes:

Download an example - Create a slide show with several slides
- Insert text and pictures into a slide
- Change the appearance of the text
- Insert colourful backgrounds
- Use simple animation to highlight text on the slide
- Use simple animation to move between slides

Create your own presentation - one which you will find useful. Alternatively, follow this example. To do so you would typically work through the following steps:

1. Start Microsoft PowerPoint. See how »
2. Create a title slide: Type the title and subtitle of your presentation in the boxes.
3. Save the slide show: Remember to save your presentation at regular intervals. See how »
4. Choose a slide design: You can use a slide design to create a uniform colour scheme for your show. See how »
5. Insert text and pictures on your slides: Appropriate pictures can support your presentation. See how »
6. Insert further slides: Information on the slides can be arranged in different ways. See how »
7. Animate text and pictures: You can move text and pictures into the slide as you present each point. Be careful not to overdo this and preferably select one type of animation for the entire presentation. See how »
8. Move from one slide to another: You can use slide transitions to enhance your presentation. See how »
9. Save the slide show. See how »
10. Present the slide show to an audience. See how »
