ICT Skills for Principals

Write a Bulletin (Beginner level)

As a principal it is important to keep parents informed of events taking place in the school. You could create bulletins or newsletters. In this scenario we focus on bulletins. You could use Microsoft Word to create such short bulletins. The basic bulletin design remains the same - you simply change the message every time you create a new bulletin.

By the end of this task you could achieve the following outcomes:

Download an example - Create a bulletin
- Insert tables
- Insert text and pictures
- Copy and paste text and images
- Print a bulletin

Create your own bulletin - one which you will find useful. Alternatively, follow this example. To do so you would typically work through the following steps:

1. Start Microsoft Word. See how »
2. Insert a table: Using tables allows you to arrange information on the page. It also provides a border for your text. See how »
3. Save the bulletin: Remember to save the bulletin regularly as you work on it. See how »
4. Type the text
5. Insert pictures: The easiest way to include a relevant picture is by using clip art, but you could explore using other pictures, for example, from the Internet. See how »
6. Copy and paste: If the information covers less than half a page you can copy it and paste a copy on the lower half of the page. This will reduce printing costs. See how »
7. Save the bulletin. See how »
8. Close Microsoft Word. See how »
