Betty's Bay Penguins

Grade 5 at Betty's Bay
Learning about the penguins at Betty's Bay
Betty's  Bay penguins are protected on Stony Point by a fence.  The fence is there to protect them from enemies such as humans and wild animals, like the leopard which 12 years ago came down from Disa Kloof and attacked the penguins, unfortunately they all died.  A few days later a farmer saw the leopard and shot it.
There are between 200 and 250 penguins in the Colony.
There are only two penguin colonies on the mainland of South Africa.  One of them is Stony Point, the other is Boulders Beach, in False Bay.  There are also some cormorants at Stony Point.
