Grade 3

Grade 3s help Australian kids -1998
A Grade 3 class at Elanora
Heights in Sydney, Australia is studying Africa. Our girls were
asked to complete a questionnaire
about life in South Africa, which was e-mailed to us. In fact our
Grade 2, 3 and 5 classes have collaborated with the Australian children
on this project on Africa!
List of
Animals spotted in one week - 1996
Grade 3 had to write down all the animals,
wild and domestic, that they saw over a week. Schools in the USA, Canada,
Finland, Australia and only our school in South Africa participated.
It was nice seeing how many animals we
could find in a week without going to a zoo and we could actually tell
people in different countries what you can see here.
It was fun seeing what different animals
we see in the world. It was nice to tell what animals we saw and to hear
what animals they saw.
I liked listening to the animals found
by girls in the class.
It was nice looking for the animals and
waiting for the birds to come out of the trees.
It was very interesting and we enjoyed
it very much.

Water,
Water Everywhere
What's in the You Drink?
The Grade 3s learnt all about water this term
and were very excited to participate in an Internet water project with
schools from USA, Australia, Singapore, Sweden, New Mexico, Ireland, Malta
and Iceland. Ours was the only school from South Africa.
The girls tested various water samples
from wells, springs, local tap water and filtered tap water for nitrates,
phosphates, chlorine and the ph level. They thoroughly enjoyed doing the
experiments in groups and look forward to comparing their interesting results
with the other schools around the world.
Here are their comments:-
It was fun to learn that there were so
many different types of water that are changed so that we can drink them.
(Tamlyn)
It was great to find out that our water
has no nitrates or phosphates. (Nontobeko)
We would like to know if there is any
lead in the water overseas. (Zarah)
It was fun colouring in and writing our
graphs. (Lindsay)
