WHAT'S    ASTRONOMY?

By astronomy  we mean  the science of  studying  the universe.Astronomers are concerned with the nature and  origins of the universe.By watching the cyclic of the sun ,the moon and the stars ,early observers soon realised that these   repeating  motions could be used to tell the passage   of  the hours  of the day or night and  a  calender  to mark the progression  of  the  seasons.
 
 

With  all  the  tools  of  modern  technology  it  is  sometimes  hard  to  imagine  how  people  performed  simple  functions  such  as  telling  time  or  knowing  where  they  were  on  Earth  before  the  invention  of  the  clock,  maps  or  navigational  satelites. The  only  tools  available  were  those  provided  by  nature  i.e.Sun,  Moon  and  Stars.
