Sudan is home to approximately 500,000 members of the Dinka. This ethnic group has lived on either side of the White Nile since the 10th century. The livelihood of the Dinka is closely tied to the river and they are considered pastoralists. They raise livestock in this area of the Nile and are known to raise herds of cattle, sheep and goats.
