During our earlier class discussion we identified a list of natural phenomena that exist in South Africa and that could pose a threat to people at times in various locations throughout the world (this list is included for the benefit of the unit portfolio, as an example of a brainstormed list):

volcanism earthquakes drought
floods Cape storms tropical cyclones
mudslides rockfalls tornadoes
radiation veld fires plagues
  1. Consider your home and your community on the one hand, and the list of threats on the other hand
  2. Choose one of the above phenomena that applies to your community or home

    4. differentiate between the nature of the occurrences in this country compared to worst case examples elsewhere in the world
