One Step Further (ICT Integration)

Developing classroom resources for science

Creating worksheets and/or transparencies

In this activity we would like you to produce a teacher support resource or a learner support resource that will support a lesson that you will be teaching in the near future. You may continue to focus on the learning outcomes that you identified in earlier workshops, or you may identify new needs for resources.

You are encouraged to develop resources that suit your needs and your levels of ICT competence. The examples that you will be shown are fairly complex, but they serve only as a source of ideas. Feel free to produce something simpler and more suited to your needs.

By the end of this activity you could achieve the following outcomes:

- Analyse learner resources
- Produce a teacher support or learner support resource

2 hours

Follow these steps to complete these activities. Look for contexts that are meaningful to you in your classroom.

  Description Resources
1 Work in pairs (30 minutes).
  • Look at one of the units of work shown as examples in the resource column.
  • Now answer these questions:
    • What do you think is the purpose of the first page? Who is the resource written to?
    • Is the language used appropriate?
    • Do you think the pictures on the first page give the resource any appeal? What is that appeal?
    • Do you think the graphics are necessary? Why or why not? Do you think the resource looks well organised and purposeful?
    • Is the style and numbering of the headings and sub-headings clear and consistent?
    • Do you think the pages look too crowded or too empty?

» Introduction to vectors.

» Introduction to electro-chemistry and electrolysis.
2 Work on your own but in contact with a partner (70 minutes).

Develop a worksheet and/or transparency that you will be able to use in a future lesson. Alternatively, if you are working towards an ICT-integrated lesson, you could develop learner support materials that the learners could use during that lesson.
