Proteaceae

There are many kinds of Proteaceae. If you pick a protea and it is not in your garden you might have to pay a R1000 fine.

Protea

Proteas were named after the Greek god Proteus because he could change into many different shapes. Our National flower is Protea cynaroides, it is called the King Protea. There are proteas in Australia because they were joined to us a long time ago. A full grown King Protea is bigger than a child's head.
