Fynbos

Fynbos is the vegetation of the South Western Cape. It is only found in this area.
There are 3 main groups of fynbos, proteas, ericas and reeds. The word 'fynbos' comes from a Dutch word meaning delicate bush. It looks delicate because of its narrow leaves. (Marcell)
Fires are very important for propagation but only about once every 15 years. It burns old and dead plants and makes space for new seedlings to grow. (Anna and Caroline)
The Khoe-Khoe used the fynbos for decoration, to eat and for medicine.
You can find out more about Fynbos Ecology at this WCSN site.
