Cape Town Through My Eyes

By Genevieve Crush

Kirstenbosch

Kirstenbosch Gardens is a beautiful place. Often, in the summer, they have bands and orchestras come and play at five o'clock. My family often goes for a walk around and then go to the concert. Kirstenbosch is one of my favourite places cause it's soooooo beautiful! There's a place called The Far Away Tree, no not the one in the book but to me it looks a lot like it. So there's no pixies or fairies you just have to use your imagination! [tree]

Table Mountain

Another very famous place is Table Mountain. My family and I climbed Table Mountain and it took 5 and a half hours to climb it!! It's called Table Mountain because it's so flat. There are many myths and legends about how it got so flat. One of my favourites is that at one time, Devils Peak, another mountain beside Table Mountain, was once on top, and then one day a giant tripped and the mountain split and the top fell off! There is another that says there was a huge earthquake and Devil's Peak just fell off! There are funny little creatures called Rock Rabbits on the top. There is a little tuck shop on the top and I like to by chips from there and feed it to the Rock Rabbits! I've been up on Table Mountain many times. It's so beautiful at night with all the beautiful city lights below. But don't be fooled because there are more mountains than just that! There are too many too talk about!

There are many things to do outdoors here in Cape Town. There are many beautiful beaches. You can take a stroll, a swim, build in the sand or just relax! (Just what I do!) How ever you must know what beaches to go to for what, because at Cape Point, The Atlantic Ocean and The Indian Oceans meet. So for a stroll, the beaches on the Atlantic side is beautiful and trust me, you don't want to swim there b-u-u-u-r-r-r!!!. Often my family walks on the Atlantic beaches. For swimming and playing the Indian side is better.

Fairs and Carnivals

Every year in Cape Town there is a fair called The Constantia Fair. It has rides like The Tornado which is a ride that twirls you round and round, and is soooo much fun and my favourite! There are mini motor bikes, a ferris wheel and lots more, but every year there are new rides. Though it's more than just that, there's a market as well with a huge selection of many different things. There are raffles (which I find boooooring!). You must pay an entrance fee as well as the tickets for the rides it's a waste of money but in the end with the fun you have it's worth it! Last year I went with a friend for the first time (because I was new in town) and I had the time of my life!!!
