Dodoma, Tanzania

Dodoma was taken over from Dar es-Salaam as the capital of Tanzania in 1974. It is situated in a region which is scantily populated. This city is the market for peanuts (groundnuts), castor beans, sunflower seeds, gum, corn (maize), rice, wheat, coffee, tea, tobacco, and sorghum. Cattle raising and farming are important economic activities. Coffee and sisal are grown in the north. The Gogo, Sanawe, Rangi and Burungi people make up most of the 45,000 plus population, and important industries are wood and furniture, beverages, processed food, milled rice and flour, soap, and oil.
