Parc National De Kahuzi-Biega
Parc National Des Virunga
Parc National Des Virunga

Opened in 1925, Virunga was Congo's first national park. It covers an area of about 8,000 square kilometers, and is administratively divided from north to south into the Ruwenzoris' Ishango; Rwindi and Vitshumbi; Nyiragongo, Nyamulagira and Karisimbi. The park stretches from Goma (Congo - Zaïre) to Lake Edward and Lake Albert. Visitors can observe gorillas in the Djombo and Bukima regions. Moreover, they can climb the Nyiragongo and Nyamulgira volcanic craters. In the Rwindi and Vitshumbi areas, visitors can observe animals such as the lion, hyena, hippo, giraffe, antelope, elephant, buffalo and other animals. The Ruwenzori mountains are considered dangerous because of military and rebel activities in the region.
