Bayanga, Central African Republic
June, 1991

I decided to fly to Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, and then to Bayanga on the Sangha River to photograph the Pygmy. The day I arrived, a medical team was in town giving vaccinations to the children, and it was an intense sight. The people lived in tent-like constructions that housed two to three rooms each. The poverty was overwhelming, and the Pygmy have been abused for many years by the general population. Traditional medicines are now being mixed with contemporary alleviates.
