These Moroccan Berbers were photographed along the Atlas Mountains in 1983, near the villages of Tamtatouchte, Ouarzazate, and Erfoud. Comprising 40% of Morocco's population isn't quite a small subculture, but Berbers, like the Kurds in Turkey, consist of many types and exist through all socio-economic strata.
