Protected Areas
India and Nepal have taken rapid strides in the field of wildlife conservation which is being implemented primarily through national parks, sanctuaries and biosphere reserves. A number of such areas have been set aside for the conservation of wild animals in the Himalayas. The conservation efforts are now beginning to have the desired effect though much remains to be done.

In spite of the tremendous work done in this field, the total protected area is very particularly for the fragile Himalayan ecosystems.

National Parks and Wildlife Reserves in Nepal
Nepal has established seven National Parks and three wildlife reserves for the protection of the endangered species. There is only one hunting reserve in Nepal. These parks and reserves comes under the administration of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department of the government of Nepal. The total area covered by these parks and reserves is 11,001 square kilometers (4,247 square miles). This represents 8% of the total area of Nepal.
