Research into thinking and learning, as well as
research into how people use websites, has shown that people cope
best with small bits of information at a time. It is, therefore,
sensible to present information on your website in small sections.
This is a bit like cutting up a big piece of food into small bits
so that a child can eat it. The generally acceptable maximum length of any
one web page document is 2 to 3 pages. A computer screen does not
display a full A4 page of text, so, if you include 3 pages of text,
you are expecting the reader to scroll down about 6 screens in order
to read the information. It is generally not advisable to exceed
this limit, because, if your documents are too long, you will lose
your reader to another site. A useful rule-of-thumb is to keep documents short
and informative, but not so short that they are not worth reading. ![screen.gif (1412 bytes)](../../../images/webd/screen.gif) |
