FrontPage - Inserting links from anywhere on a page

FrontPage allows the user to create links from anywhere on a web page to anywhere on a web page.  This is very useful if you have a list indicating the subsections on that page, at the beginning of a web page.  It is useful if it is a long page, so that the user can jump right to the section they require.   In FrontPage these destination places on a page that you have marked for linking, are called bookmarks.

The example chosen for this tip sheet is from a web page where there was a list of subsections, at the beginning of the page.  The section Make up of final year mark did not have a hyperlink.  It was most important that users note that section.  A bookmarked hyperlink had to be made.

To create a bookmarked hyperlink

Select the text which is the destination of the bookmark or hyperlink.

Select the text and click Insert on the menu bar, then Bookmark.  The Bookmark dialogue box which opens contains all the bookmarks previously made on that page.  Click OK for the new bookmark.

The text which was marked is now underlined with dashed lines indicating that it was marked.

Next select the text to be hyperlinked so it can be linked to its destination or bookmark.

Select the text and click on the Hyperlink icon on the menu bar.

A Create Hyperlink box opens.

Click on the small arrow pointing downwards to open the Bookmark box.  Select the required Bookmark and press OK.

The hyperlink becomes blue with a line underneath it.  On the World Wide Web words that are underlined in blue and images with a blue border, are usually hypertext links.  If you click on them you activate the hyperlink.
