Module 8 - Considering the Seeing Reason Tool for Your Project

During this module, you will try out your ideas by creating a practice Seeing Reason causal map, discussing and practicing effective questioning techniques, providing and receiving feedback on your ideas, and using tips on implementation and assessment to revise your Project Plan.

Activity 8.1

Trying Out Your Seeing Reason Idea

The purpose of creating a practice causal map is to test your concepts in order to disclose different interpretations of the research question and new avenues of thought, so that you can then revise your project, questions, and requirements, as needed. This practice causal map should not be shown to your learners as an example for them to follow. Rather, they should be allowed to make their own discoveries. The other purpose of this practice map is to determine whether the use of the Seeing Reason Tool really is the best fit for your project. You may decide, after trying out your ideas, that the use of another thinking tool would support your project ’s assessment standards in a more direct way.

Follow the steps below to create a practice causal map. Use the Intel® Education Help Guide if you need assistance in completing any ICT skills identified in the steps. These are the same directions you would provide to your learners when you are ready to have them create their own causal maps.

When creating your practice causal map, ensure the following:

  • The causal map directly answers the research question that investigates cause-and-effect relationships, and also supports and provides the basis for answering the in-depth questions of the project.

  • The factors listed on the causal map can be measured, observed, or verified.

  • The factors are clearly described, and the relationships between the factors are causal, valid, and defensible.
