Introduction

Where would learners sit during break on a very hot day? Does your school garden look interesting without trees?

Deciduous or evergreen?  Indigenous or Exotic? Which trees do you prefer?

l

 Task

The Grade 3s have been asked to decide which trees must be planted in the school garden. Your class must therefore present a proposal (your suggestions with motivations) to the school's Governing Body.  They need a database of names of trees that can be planted.  Trees that are suitable: to meet the needs of the learners and will grow in our environment.

You will: -
  • Work in groups and be assigned different roles.
  • Study different types of trees.
  • Create a PowerPoint Presentation with your proposal which must include reasons why you choose specific trees.  Present it to the Governing Body.
  • You will be assessed for individual and group work.

Conclusion

Do you know why the trees you have selected as a group are suitable for the school garden? Will our school garden have a better selection of trees than the school up the road?
